‘Only when everyone kneels, it becomes clear who stands up’
The plain of Dura is the place where the dictator had put his self-portrait and to where he invited all his vassals to come and kneel for him. This is a very recognizable image in our modern times: North Korea, Tiananmen Square in Beijing, Red Square in Moscow, what´s a leader without submissive followers?
This piece is a diptych: in the first piece all the nails stand up, in the second one all the nails are bent down except three of them. The rhythmical plurality of hundreds of nails in a tight line formation are a fascinating image, the interruption of the three nails standing up form an exciting antithesis.
