The title is a reference to a text which is mentioned 4 times in the Bible:

All flesh is grass

And all its beauty is like the flower of the field.

The grass withers, the flower fades

But the word of our God will stand forever.

Isaiah 40:6

We are confronted with mortality.
This is not a popular subject in our culture.
We have our faces lifted, we botox our wrinkles and we paint our grey hairs…

I think it is important to think from time to time of the fact that even the most beautiful things are temporary.
To put things in perspective.

Except the things of God: these put things in the right proportion.

“Remember the dead”

In our speedy society we have no time for this.
There is hardly any understanding when people need time to grieve because they are in mourning.

This work of art tries to find a form for a theme which never should be forgotten.

Around a grave in the Middle Ages sometimes statues of crying figures were placed.

They seem to invite people to show their grief and they also help me to cross the threshold to show my hidden grief.
